- [Nancy] Hello, I'm Nancy Meedzan,
00:03
Dean of the School of Nursing.
00:05
I am so happy that you are considering a degree in nursing.
00:09
This year's pandemic has flagged
00:11
the value of nursing to the community,
00:13
the nobility of nurses as frontline professionals,
00:17
and the global nature of the challenges
00:19
to nursing as a whole.
00:21
This virtual tour of the School of Nursing
00:23
at Endicott College will show you
00:25
how we utilize educational technologies and space
00:29
to prepare our students to respond flexibly
00:32
to future healthcare uncertainties.
00:35
The School of Nursing is located on the North West side
00:38
of the campus near the Bourque Hockey Arena.
00:42
The building houses only the nursing program,
00:46
so it is a place for the nursing students,
00:49
faculty, and staff to connect and collaborate
00:52
in a peaceful setting, tucked in the woods
00:54
of our beautiful campus.
00:57
We accept our applicants directly into the nursing program,
01:01
so students know that once they have earned
01:03
a seat in our program, they have our full commitment
01:06
to their success in the nursing profession.
01:09
Our classrooms are bright, pleasant,
01:12
and comfortable for students,
01:13
and the larger sizes allow for more active teaching methods
01:17
to be utilized.
01:19
All classrooms are equipped with microphones and cameras
01:23
to allow remote access.
01:25
We have seven classrooms that fit 25 students,
01:29
which is the size of most of our classes,
01:32
and one larger classroom which fits 45 students.
01:36
Students take nursing courses in these classrooms
01:39
and they take their general education core classes
01:42
on the main campus.
01:44
Core classes are where our students learn skills
01:47
in communication, critical thinking,
01:49
and job skills that are so important in today's job market.
01:55
This is our five-room primary care suite,
01:58
which provides an area for our freshmen nursing students
02:02
and our nurse practitioner graduate students
02:05
to practice their skills in health assessment.
02:09
We believe our students have an advantage
02:12
by starting their first nursing course
02:14
during the freshman year.
02:17
The larger exam room you see here
02:19
can also be repurposed to accommodate furniture,
02:23
which simulates the apartment of an elderly client,
02:27
and we use this in our community health simulations.
02:30
Here we have our high-fidelity simulation lab,
02:34
which was completed in the fall of 2020.
02:37
This lab is used my sophomore, junior,
02:40
and senior nursing students.
02:42
We supplement our clinical hours in the hospital
02:45
with experiences here in the high-fidelity simulation labs,
02:49
where students practice in small groups with our mannequins,
02:53
applying clinical judgment skills
02:56
to the patient scenarios they might encounter
02:58
in the healthcare setting.
03:01
Providing some of the higher acuity,
03:03
low-prevalence patient scenarios during simulation assures
03:08
that all of our graduates have the skills necessary
03:11
for competent nursing practice.
03:14
Our graduating classes consistently score in the 90s
03:18
on the National Licensure Examination
03:20
for Registered Nurses, which is well above the state
03:23
and national averages.
03:25
This is partly because we start to prepare our students
03:28
for success on the Licensure Examination
03:32
in the freshman year,
03:33
and we get them into their first clinical experience
03:36
in the sophomore year.
03:38
This is a full year ahead of most other nursing programs.
03:43
Here we have our large skills lab,
03:45
which is used for sophomore nursing students
03:47
during their fundamentals of nursing clinical.
03:51
Our sophomore students are thrilled
03:52
to start clinical at many of the Boston hospitals
03:55
the first semester of their sophomore year.
03:58
Our classrooms extend beyond this building
04:00
and into the community.
04:02
Our program includes eight clinical experiences
04:05
and a full semester internship experience
04:08
in the best hospital systems in the world,
04:11
which equates to almost 700 hours
04:13
of clinical practice upon graduation.
04:16
Learning at these world-renowned teaching hospitals,
04:19
such as Massachusetts General Hospital,
04:22
Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Medical Center,
04:26
Tufts Medical Center, and Children's Hospital Boston,
04:30
impacts our students in their education and provides them
04:33
with potential job opportunities upon graduation.
04:37
Those that choose the fifth year master's program
04:41
can continue on with their nursing studies
04:44
to become a family nurse practitioner,
04:46
nurse administrator, nurse educator, or global health nurse.
04:51
Our students are well prepared for graduate-level work,
04:55
because they have completed an undergraduate thesis
04:57
as part of their core curriculum.
05:00
We offer a seamless transition to the graduate program
05:04
with an accelerated admission process,
05:07
no GRE requirements, and a 20% alumni discount.
05:12
We also have two doctoral level nursing programs,
05:16
so Endicott really can take you to the pinnacle
05:19
of nursing leadership.
05:20
I hope you enjoyed our tour
05:22
of the Endecott College School of Nursing.
05:24
We would love to welcome you in person to the nest any time.
