"How wonderful it is that nobody needs to wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." - -Anne Frank, 1929-1945
The Week that Lasts a Lifetime... Consider an "Alternative" Spring Break. Gain a better understanding of yourself and your capacity for helping others, and make new friends along the way!
Alternative Spring Breaks (ASB) are organized by colleges and universities nationwide, as an alternative to the conventional spring break trips. Students choosing to participate dedicate their time and energy to doing community service in places all around the country. It is a significant time commitment for a worthwhile cause, involving both the trip and also the planning and fundraising such a project requires. ASB exposes students to complex social and cultural issues through community visits, experiential learning, direct service, group discussion, readings, and reflection activities. In return it is our hope that participants see the need for advocates of social change on issues affecting our communities. To get some student perspective on Alternative Break trips, check out what some former participants trips have to say!
If you are interested in this type of community service and would like to be involved in future alternative breaks, please contact Lauri Rawls, Director of Community Service at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applications for Alternative Spring Break are available in the beginning of the fall semester.
