Incoming Fall 2025 First-Year Students and Returning students:
The FAFSA Simplification Act expands eligibility for federal financial aid. It streamlines the financial aid application process for students and families and provides a better user experience in completing the form. It also reduces completion barriers for certain student populations.
Typically, students can complete the FAFSA starting on Oct. 1. For the 2025-26 aid year only, students will begin completing the FAFSA in December 2024.
Students and Parents will need a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) to complete the FAFSA. Families can create their FSA IDs now. A parent or spouse without a Social Security Number will be able to get an FSA ID. FSA IDs can be created on the Federal Student Aid website.
There is a new term—contributor—being introduced on the 2024–25 FAFSA form. A contributor is anyone required to provide a signature on a student’s FAFSA form as well as consent and approval to have their federal tax information transferred directly into the FAFSA form. Contributors may include the student, their spouse, a biological or adoptive parent, or a stepparent. Each contributor must have their own StudentAid.gov account to access the online FAFSA form.

Spring 2025 Transfer Students:
The 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available and must be completed if you wish to be considered for all federal, state, and institutional need-based financial aid for Spring 2025. This form is used as a guide to building a student's need-based financial aid package, including grants, work-study, and Stafford Loans. For the 2024-25 academic year you will be using your 2022 tax information to complete the FAFSA. If you and your parents have filed 2022 taxes, you should be able to use Direct Data Exchange in order to import the 2022 tax data into your FAFSA.
