Endicott Looks Forward to the New Academic Year

Beverly, MA -- On September 4 Endicott College will begin its new academic year. For its twentieth consecutive year, the College has enrolled the largest class in its history. This year the College anticipates an enrollment of approximately 2,360 students in its traditional on campus undergraduate program. Approximately 2,000 will be in on campus housing and 52 students will study abroad in such countries as Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, India, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and Taiwan.
New students include 710 students of whom 650 are freshmen. They represent 23 states and 14 countries. According to Tom Redman, Vice President of Admission and Financial Aid, “We have experienced another banner year in the Office of Admission! Of the 4,000 students who applied, 62% were offered admission. The new Class brings a wealth of talent and experience to campus as they have excelled academically, been active as student leaders and athletes, and participated in many valuable community service activities.”
The doctoral program in Educational Leadership will enroll its first class and the Master degree in Homeland Security, one of only a few nationwide, will also enroll its first class in the fall. Through the Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies, over 2600 students are enrolled at 29 Massachusetts sites and six international sites in certificate, associate, bachelor and doctoral degrees. Most recently Endicott opened a campus in Gloucester.
At the undergraduate level, new majors in Hotel Management and Applied Mathematics will be offered. In the School of Communications concentrations in the areas of Digital Journalism, Marketing Communications and Media Studies are now majors. In the School of Visual and Performing Arts concentrations in Creative Arts Therapy and Studio Art are now majors. Education majors now have an option of pursuing a concentration in Autism and Applied Behavioral Analysis. New faculty have been hired to teach in the areas of Business, Hospitality, Criminal Justice, Interior Design, Sport Science, and Social Science.
According to President Richard E. Wylie, “Over the summer we have renovated and upgraded classrooms, offices, residence halls, and roadways. A new turf field replaces the baseball/field hockey field which is slated to open in late September. We have increased parking with two new lots that will accommodate over 300 cars. This should go a long way to eliminate the parking crunch for many years to come. A recently purchased house overlooking the campus will house 12 additional students. The new Life Sciences and Business building is taking shape. The foundation is in and the exterior walls are being constructed. This building will be ready for occupancy in fall 2013.”
The College recently celebrated Dr. Wylie’s twenty-fifth anniversary at Endicott and recognized his accomplishments throughout the years. In addition, the College received one of its largest gifts from Walter Manninen of Rockport. Walter donated his renowned art collection consisting of more than 200 works by important American artists with connections to Cape Ann and Massachusetts including many pieces by acclaimed artist, Theresa Bernstein. His deferred gift, including the art collection, is valued in the millions of dollars. To honor Walter’s vision, the College named the new art center the Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts and endow a chair in the Fine Arts in his name.
As of today, over 500 preseason athletes, orientation leaders and resident assistants have arrived on campus; new students are slated to arrive on August 31 and returning students on September 3. Classes begin on September 4.
