The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee – Student-Directed Theater Production
10/28/2011
BEVERLY, MA – Get ready for the competition of a lifetime! The Endicott College Drama Club presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by William Finn (music and lyrics) and Rebecca Sheinkin (book). This hit musical took Broadway by storm in 2005 and is now one of the most popular musicals of our time.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee takes place at Tia's Theater, Center for the Arts, Endicott College, 376 Hale Street, Beverly on Thursday, November 3 at 7:30 pm; Friday, November 4 at 7:30 pm; and Saturday, November 5 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. General Admission is $5.
In this raucous and hilarious musical, set in the "middle school gymnasium," audiences will delight in watching six young students compete for the chance to be champion of the spelling bee: Chip, the bee's defending champion; William Barfee, last year's disaster; Leaf Coneybear, the free spirit who didn't actually get to the finals by winning; Olive Ostrovsky, the soft-spoken brainiac; Marcy Park, the brilliant competitor who can do just about anything; and Logainne Shwartzandgrubenniere, the bee's youngest competitor. Helping these children through the trials and tribulations of competitive spelling are the bee's directors Rona Lisa Peretti, Vice Principal Panch, and the "comfort counselor," Mitch Mahoney.
But audiences shouldn't expect to watch idly as these kids compete to be the best. Each performance, four lucky audience volunteers are invited on stage to compete to win the prize. So come to Endicott College with your spelling caps on and get ready to win!
