Award Winners Announced – High School Art Competition 2013 at Endicott College

    03/20/2013

Beverly, MA --  The awards ceremony for the High School Art Competition 2013 at the Manninen Center for the Arts at Endicott College was held on Thursday, March 7, and the award winners are listed below.  This prestigious exhibition holds 60 works of art from 18 High Schools in the surrounding areas.  According to Al Miner, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, MFA Boston, who chose many of the awards,   “From pencil drawings to pencil shavings, this year’s high school art competition brought together a wide range of media and demonstrated the breadth of creativity among young artists today…  drawings and paintings captured the human spirit and figure, as did sticks; in the hands of an artist, these simple and rigid forms convey the fluid movement of the human body.  This year an especially wide variety of schools are represented in the exhibition and among the competition winners, this as a testament to the artistic vitality and commitment to the arts in this region.”

Many students enjoyed the evening as they showed family and friends their work and interacted with other students from various high schools.  From a parent, “This type of program/event does more than just promote the arts. It also helps young artists develop a strong sense of self esteem and confidence.  It’s makes parents very proud as well.”

We are grateful to all the parents, students, and high school art faculty who participated in this exhibition, and we look forward to next year’s competition as well, states Kathleen Moore, Coordinator of Visual Arts – Gallery Director at the Walter J. Manninen Center for the Arts.
