Endicott NSTA Student Chapter Community Involvement
The Endicott NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) student chapter, with co-advisors Mary Hatton and Melanie Melanson, has had a busy spring this year! They have brought the wonder and fun of science to families in the communities of Beverly and North Reading. Recently the chapter organized and engaged first graders and their families to become “Backyard Habitat Detectives” at the Batchelder Elementary School in North Reading. Families explored plants and animals together and then built a habitat of their own. Earlier this spring the NSTA student chapter also facilitated science activities focusing on birds, at the Cove School in Beverly. Events such as these give parents a sense of what science teaching and learning is like today, and is a great reflection of Endicott’s commitment to the local community. These opportunities also provide valuable experiences for the NSTA student chapter members, all of whom are pre-service teachers. Thank you to them for their hard work and dedication!
