We live in the post-genome era, as the human genome has been sequenced, unlocking our genetic information. As a result of such incredible advances, biotechnology is considered the third technological revolution and is expected to change the world as much as the industrial and the computer/IT revolutions before it. The excitement of this growing field, and the abundance of outstanding resources in the area surrounding Endicott's campus, led to the creation of a Biology and Biotechnology (Bio/Biotech) major that offers students a progressive biology education. Bio/Biotech majors receive cutting-edge technical training in courses and laboratory sessions that, together, provide knowledge and methodological skills in areas like genomics, bioethics, molecular biology, chemistry, and bioinformatics.
Discoveries and applications related to biotechnology affect society greatly, as they contribute to health, food and nutrition improvement, energy solutions, nanotechnology, environmental protection, vaccine development and bio-warfare preparedness, forensics, drug discovery, and more. The emergence of the Boston region as the nation's biotech leader, home to over 300 biotech companies, combined with the College's unique emphasis on internships, means that our Biotech majors benefit from outstanding local opportunities and experience a number of exciting career options before graduation.
