Pastelis to present at National School Boards Association Conference and Exposition

12/10/2012

School of Education faculty member, Anthony Pastelis, Ph.D. will be co-presenting a session on Elementary Education reform with Rochester, NH Superintendent Mike Hopkins, at the 2013 National School Boards Association Conference and Exposition, to be held in San Diego from April 12-15, 2013.

This workshop will describe how the Rochester, NH School District took the concept of changing the elementary school paradigm and developed it into the state's first Magnet School (an in-district K - 6 school of choice) with unique curricular offerings including adding 20 days to the school year, foreign language instruction beginning in Kindergarten, personalized learning plans for each student, and thematic-based instruction. An overview of how support for the initiative grew as a result of parental, staff, board and community involvement will provide attendees with ideas and models that should be readily transferrable to other school districts.
